Need help identifying a herp?

Have a reptile or amphibian identification question?  The quickest way to get an ID would be through social media.  You can post a photo to the Facebook group Reptile and Amphibian Identification.[/vc_column_text][gap size=”60px” id=”” class=”” style=””][vc_column_text]

Did you find a tortoise or box turtle in the city?

We receive many messages from concerned citizens who have found a tortoise or box turtle in Tucson.  If you are in a developed area without native habitat nearby, this is likely an escaped pet.   Both the Desert Tortoise and the native Desert Box Turtle are protected species in Arizona and should never be removed from the wild.  If you live on the fringes of Tucson you may encounter a wild tortoise or turtle.  The best thing you can do is to allow the animal to return to where it came from.  If you have concerns for the animals safety, you should contact a licensed wildlife relocation service.[/vc_column_text][gap size=”60px” id=”” class=”” style=””][vc_column_text]

Need to find a new home for a pet?

The Tucson Herpetological Society does not rescue or rehome reptiles and amphibians.  There are some individuals and organizations who offer this service, but the THS has not vetted any such organization and cannot offer a recommendation.   We must direct anyone seeking this service to Facebook or Google.
